Son Doong Cave
Located in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Son Doong Cave is the largest cave in Vietnam and the largest cave in the world. The name means “Mountain River Cave” referring to the fast-flowing, underground river flowing through it. The cave is believed to have formed between 2-5 million years ago and boasts a cavern that is more than 200 meters wide and 150 meters high. Early expeditions were halted by a 200 foot wall of muddy calcite, appropriately dubbed “The Great Wall of Vietnam”.
